What it is

Overview

Hydrapanel is a non-structural wall and ceiling panel lining that is impervious to moisture and resistant to water, steam, abrasion and typical cleaning materials.

Originally intended for wet areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. It is also ideal for food preparation areas where code and health regulations require impervious surfaces that withstand water and chemicals and are easily maintained and cleaned.

  • High-pressure decorative laminate panels with aluminium moulding accessories
  • Magnesium fireproof board with laminated faces and back
  • Non-porous finish — does not require painting or grouting
  • Standard finish: white, with gloss on one side and a matt finish on the other
  • Cuts with standard woodworking tools — no silica dust issues, contractor-friendly
  • No VOCs — strong and rigid
  • Other colours and patterns available on request (POA)
  • Not subject to a warning or ban under section 26 of the Building Act

Installation

A rigid, safe and easy-to-use lining solution for renovations and new builds. Install with or without trims, direct to framing or to existing wall linings — butt joined and sealed.

Timber framing: studs at maximum 600mm centres for 1200-wide sheets and 450mm centres for 900-wide sheets. Ceiling battens require minimum 400mm spacing. Support surfaces must be straight, flush, and have moisture content below 18%.

Concrete and masonry: battens spaced at 600mm centres horizontally and vertically (adjusted for panel width). All timber requires damp-proof courses between concrete surfaces.

Apply continuous 5mm × 5mm adhesive beads to framing, clean surfaces with solvent cleaner beforehand, press sheets firmly with 10mm packers, and allow 24-hour cure time before proceeding with additional work.

Jointer types
Aluminium jointers and FlushFit jointers (aluminium or PVC)
Finishing the joints
Two options — adhesive with aluminium or PVC jointers; or adhesive with silicone / negative joints, using the negative FlushFit jointer with silicone
Recommended adhesives
Selleys 650FC (formerly Armourflex FC) · Gorilla Fix All High Tack · Würth PUR Construction Adhesive Rapid
Cure time
24 hours before additional work
Aluminium jointer profiles: end cap, standard H, internal corner, external corner / PVC Jointers Flushfit panel jointer, internal corner

Maintenance

Easy care

High Pressure Laminate surface — durable and easy to care for.

Hydrapanel linings are water and moisture resistant panels; however, the sheets must be installed and maintained to resist water penetration. Care must be given to joints and penetrations, and these must be maintained to ensure that no water can penetrate to the framing.

Hydrawood linings are finished in High Pressure Laminate, so cleaning should be with non-abrasive cloths and cleaners.

Storage and handling: long term storage of the sheets must be under cover on evenly spaced bearers (600mm max) to keep them flat and dry. Outside storage requires panels to be covered with a breathable waterproof material that allows air to circulate around the panel stack. Panels must be lifted, not dragged, off the stack.
